Human-Automation Interaction and the Future of Work

Human-Automation Interaction and the Future of Work

The advances in technology in the past decades have changed many characteristics of work, leisure, and other human activities. In the last years there has been debates on how automated machines will replace humans and take their jobs away. Many researchers and practitioners, nevertheless, believe that there will be enough work for humans to do. Automation will grow to augment human capabilities. This means that instead of replacing them, it creates a transition in their jobs. Humans will need to acquire new skills and adapt to collaborate with the increasingly capable machines alongside them in the workplace. But this is not only a challenge for humans, but the designers and developers of automated systems. Creating automated systems that can collaborate effectively and efficiently with humans, are reliable, and can shape positive and meaningful user experiences are the core challenges of many industries and researchers today. In this webinar we aim to discuss automation and the transitions it brings to the workplace and address some of the important issues that the design of automated systems should consider to overcome the upcoming challenges.
